A major fire at a furniture showroom in the Nampally area of Old Hyderabad has raised serious concerns, with three to four people, including two children, suspected to be trapped inside. The incident has led to severe traffic disruption, with Hyderabad Police urging visitors to postpone their visit to the ongoing month-long Numaish exhibition nearby.
The fire broke out at Bacha Crystal Furniture, located on the ground floor of a four-storey commercial building. According to local residents, several people were trapped inside the building. Panic-stricken women were seen crying and pleading with rescue personnel to bring out those trapped.

The entire area was engulfed in heavy smoke, and nearby buildings were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Firefighters also deployed cranes in their efforts to rescue those inside. With large quantities of inflammable material stored in the building, the premises had turned into a virtual tinderbox.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said that police personnel and disaster response teams were actively engaged in rescue operations. “We suspect that three or four people are inside the building, and we are making all efforts to rescue them,” he said.
He added that traffic movement in the area had been severely disrupted and advised visitors to postpone their visit to the exhibition for the day to avoid inconvenience.
Local MP Asaduddin Owaisi described the incident as deeply concerning. “I have been in touch with officials on the ground and have also instructed AIMIM MLC Rahmath Baig to assist in any way possible. I am praying for the safety of all those trapped inside,” he said.
The fire at the furniture shop is a grim reminder of a blaze near Charminar in the Old City area last year, which claimed the lives of 17 members of a family. Many old buildings in this congested part of the city remain vulnerable to fire incidents due to single entry and exit points and outdated electrical wiring.
